Petrified wood are preserved remains from prehistoric trees, that take millions of years to form, this is what makes petrified wood so fascinating as it's considered a fossil & crystal! ~

How does pet wood form?:

First the trees get buried by water & sediment rich in minerals, this, removes it from it's high oxygen environment & slows down the decomposition process almost completely. As the decaying slows down gradually this allows minerals & sediment to seep into the wood. Over time the material decays & minerals from the water are taken turning the wood to stone! The original material can be replaced with calcite, pyrite, opal, quartz & chalcedony.
